UMM Breakfast

Sunday, August 15th 7:30 AM

at First United Methodist Church

Your UMM met on Sunday, July 18, at our Fellowship Hall here at Church.  Sammy Matthews again catered the meal of eggs (fixed two ways), bacon, sausage, link sausage pork chops, gravy, grits, biscuits, juice and coffee…any of you may come and enjoy this breakfast….just call one of up a few days ahead so we will be expecting you….

During the business portion, our mostly trustworthy treasurer, A.P. Mills, noted that we are current on all our donations and expenses, but our yearly contributions to "our" Boy and Girl Scouts will be due in the beginning of the "scout year" in September.  Additionally, since there will be a CROP walk this fall for the first time in two years we will make a donation to this effort also.

Volunteers from UMM were lined up to provide special snacks for the Vacation Bible School set for our church in mid-August. This effort will be a first, but not last, effort by your men to become more active in the different areas of the church…stay tuned….

The 100-Man Project for the community is well under way …..we have had several rides under our belt and some complaints…..but since most of us either are, or have been married, we can handle criticism in stride…We are a mixed bag, exactly what Jesus would want….a Catholic driver was the first one, driving the van serviced by a Baptist, the ride being arranged by a Church of Christ dispatcher, and reported on by a Methodist…if this is not what Christ has in mind for His followers, somebody tell what it is we should be doing….

Additionally, a man and a woman from the Lutheran Church down the street called and volunteered to be a driver and an aide one day per month, and they joined other Lutherans in completing our roster for those jobs.  The Board of Directors plans to meet each month on the first Fridays at 10:00 AM at the fire department ready room.  Anyone who would like to attend will be welcome Adam York has agreed to function as our Corresponding Secretary, and will be responsible for mailing (postal service) and e-mailing activity reports and thank you note each month to donors, drivers and aides.

Our next meeting will be here at FUMC Fellowship Hall on Sunday, August 15 at 7:30 AM when, once again, Sammy Matthews will be catering…..be here, or be sorry…

We currently have fifteen men now on roll with and average attendance of 12 most months.  Jesus made out with only twelve….make your mark at church by joining your men’s group.  Bud Davis sullied his sterling reputation by joining us for breakfast, and a good Baptist, Bill Isley, also attended after a month-long absence.

Thought for the Month…."I haven’t always done a good job, and I haven’t always been successful, but I know that I have always tried hard,” the late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. While I do not know the level of Christian commitment Mr. Steinbrenner had  (he also once said he didn’t have heart attacks….he gave them) his comment above would be a good one on our Christian commitment.
